The play
It is a typical scenario of Commedia dell’Arte, with love, intrigues, disguises, transformations, coups de theatre and recognitions Starting from the “High tide” problem, it tells about the nowadays of Venice. In action Pantalone, Arlecchino, Lovers, Doctors, Witches and other unexpected characters. All enriched with music, dance and pantomime, moments of poetry and social satire, and some innovative elements.
The different languages and cultures of the actors (Commedia dell’Arte as “harmony of various languages”) and the more than twenty year’s experience of the Director, guarantee quality, energy, rhythm, fun and the possiility for every one to understand and follow the story.
The plot
After a nightmare premonition about a huge wave swallowing Venice, Pantalone announces a competition for a work to save the city. The prize will be a rich dowry and the marriage with his gorgeous daughter. A call for proposals is published and the best scientists gather from all over the world. In fact the real purpose for them all for coming to Venice is different: someone comes for love, some other seeking revenge, or trying to take advantage of the situation. Some projects are presented, some are serious and some other really fanciful (the mobile dyke from Ancona to Spalato; the drilling to Australia to bring water to the desert; disassemble Venice piece by piece and bring it to Las Vegas; the Noè; the Mosè; etc...). Pantalone, in the meantime, has become the president of the Public Health Committee and...
The play was first performed in San Marco square for the 2007 Venice Carnival and inaugurated the “House of Comedy” a new project in collaboration with the Venitian Civi Museums.
VENEZIAINSCENA: WHO WE ARE
The Centre was started in 1999 by a group of professionals with international experience, who had been teaching together for many years at the Avogaria School "Giovanni Poli", recently closed. Their aim was creating in Venice a permanent centre for Theatre education, focused on a broad and deep approach to the wide world of Theatre studies.
The stage was opened by bringing into action a biennial school of basic training for the actor and a few intensive workshops. The Centre reserves a central place to Commedia dell'Arte, recognised as a great school and a big opportunity for an actor professional development. This is the reason for this international workshop, now at its twelth edition, with the same long experienced team of teachers.
Since 2005 Veneziainscena has widened its range of activities by producing and organizing theatrical events. An International Company is formed with professional actors from different countries and its productions tour Italy and Europe. An International Centre for the study and use of Theatre Masks from different traditions is opened in 2005. The House of Comedy is created in february 2007, in collaboration with The Venician City Museums. The House of Comedy is a centre for study, documentation, production and staging of Commedia dell’Arte professional performances.

The company
During Carnival 2005, Venezia INscena decided to create a company selecting actors from different countries (France, Spain; Ireland, Italy) among the hundreds of students of the International Commedia dell’Arte Workshop that Adriano Iurissevich and his collaborators held in Venice since 1996 (next edition will be the eleventh). It was time to open a new chapter of the story, to take the risk of producing a commedia and some of the best former students, now professional actors were put toghether. Three scenarios have been set up and performed till now: “D’amore rapito”, “Il vecchio geloso” e “L’eredità di Pantalone ovvero Venezia salvata dalle acque”
The linguistic and cultural variety of the group (Commedia dell’Arte as “Armony of different languages”) and the 25 year experience of the director and his collaborators guarantee quality, energy, ritm and....amusement The company performed in theatres and national and international festivals like:

Actor, director and teacher in Italy, Spain, England, and Israel. Acts under Benno Besson, Peter Greenaway, J.Sanchis Sinisterra among others Works with the Tag of Venice, the Stabili of Veneto and Genoa, the Gran Teatro di Carlo Cecchi, the Telemaco company (Madrid), the Gaslit Theatre Company (London), the Habimah Theatre of Jerusalem, and in film and television. He has taught at the most important European universities and schools (Accademia Nazionale “Silvio d’Amico,” Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, Real Escuela de Arte Dramatico de Madrid, Royal Scottish academy of Music and Drama, ENSATT de Lyon, and the Habimah National Theatre of Tel Aviv ). Founded and directs “Venezia Inscena – Centro di formazione teatrale” ” and in 2007 the “House of Comedy”, centre for study and production of Commedia dell’Arte with the collaboration of experienced theatre professionals. Without neglecting excursions into contemporary theatre, his specialty is Commedia dell’Arte, which he has been teaching and practicing now for more than twenty years. For nine years he has been director of an important international laboratory of Commedia dell’Arte, which attracts numerous Italian and foreign students to Venice every year. Vocalist and actor in many concerts and performances in Italy and France. Studies with M. Nicolas, L.Anderson, J.Hart, J.Clayton, Tran Quan Hai. Teaches at the “Civica Academy” Paolo Grassi in Milan, the Teatro a l’Avogaria di Venezia, the “Civica Academy” Nico Pepe di Udine, Venezia Inscena. Collaborates with the educational projects of the Theatre “La Fenice” di Venezia. Froml 1999 to 2003 works at InCanto –Sounds in action of Milan in récital for voices, instruments and images under the direction of Ambra D’Amico. From 1990 he creates with the photografer-director Gianfranco Iannuzzi image installations and music in several places in France and Italy.
