Background
The coastal area continues to live its history
Certain documents dating from the Republic of Venice allow us to pinpoint the first inhabitation of the coastal area as being in the 16th century. The evidence on architectural settlements mentions:
- Mesole Convent (16th century);
- The stately home of Saccagnana, an original representation of a Veneto-style villa;
- The gates of Cavallino, from which the lagoon’s water craft departed;

- The two basins created by Flemish Daniel Nys, one of the first foreign aristocrats to live in the area for much of the 1800s;
- Cavallino church, which was completed in the mid-18th century;
- A number of rural and military buildings such as the Battery, evidence of the Cavallino-Treporti’s strategic defence role during the Great War and other periods.
